Cheimsee, Southern Bavaria

(Friday 16 April 2010) by Jill's travels
We woke up this morning in Cheimsee, to clear skys and sunshine, it was so nice to feel the heat and to put on sandals and shorts instead of wellies! We picked a spot right on the edge of the lake overlooking the Austrian Alps beyond. Also on the other side of the lake is a hotel which Hitler insisted on having built. Apparently, so he could use it when he was on his way between Munchen and his home. Its been empty for a while, they can't decide what to do with it but it can't be knocked down. So, as the weather was so nice we decided to have a lazy morning and just enjoy the view. This afternoon we cycled into Cheimsee, I would describe it as an upmarket holiday resort. We like it here, so we think we may stay for a while. There is a marina here with ferries running daily over to a couple of small islands, Munchen and Innsbruck are a train ride away and there is also a public Spa Centre which we must visit. This building is all glass, on the edge of the lake, it has an infinity pool, sauna, steam, jaccuzi and a swimming pool. So, for 5 euros I think we will give it a visit, probably Sunday. Tomorrow we are of to Munchen on the train, fingers crossed it stays dry. Best wishes xxx
