South of France

(Tuesday 6 July 2010) by Jill's travels
Hello, We have been in Frejus for a couple of weeks now and plan to leave on Friday where we will head for Salon de Provence, West of Marseille. We will stay in this region for a couple of weeks as we hope to meet up with our friends Penny and Paul from the UK. From there, we will head towards the Pyrenees near Perpignan and stay there for a couple of weeks, when our Daughter Victoria will visit us for a few days.

We have been in the Var region now for two weeks and it has been extremely hot with temperatures reaching 36 degrees. This must be the favourite holiday destination for the Dutch. We experienced people from Germany monopolised Southern Spain, the Dutch love it here.

The whole region as you can imagine is a little commercialised but the commercialism outweighs what the region has to offer. The scenery is quite spectacular, the people friendly and the area very much loved in relation to their buildings, roads and environment. From St Maxine we caught a boat for 10 euros across to St Tropez, wow, how the other half live! The average cost of a boat, a couple of million! When there, the boats arriving from different Countries into the harbour would draw crowds of people. It was quite funny to see the power of these wealthy people, very expensive vehicles, bodyguards and press would turn up within seconds, to welcome the families aboard. That aside, St Tropez is worth a visit, very relaxed and very french!

Frejus and St Raphael have a lovely beach and very energetic towns from morning until the early hours, with market stalls, musicians and bars full to capacity.

The highlight though has to be the day we spent in the mountains with our Dutch friends Jan and Dinny. The region is called Massif de Esterel which surrounds the Gorges Du Verdon. We have taken lots of photos for you to see as I couldnt possibly describe it. We finished the day at a beachside Cafe in St Aygulf where we had moules and frites, very nice. Hope you like the photos, speak soon, Best wishes xxx
