Provence de Salon II

(Sunday 18 July 2010) by Jill's travels
Hi, We're still in the Provence and it is the nicest place with friendly people and drivers which is a bonus! We have really grown to love the local villages, Eyguieres and Solon de Provence and so the other night we went to the music festival that was held in Salon. Families and couples came out in their droves to see the street bands and musicians, it was a fabulous atmosphere. I have to mention our campsite 'Nostradamus' which unusually is filled with local families, probably due to the French holiday time of year so afternoons are spent watching or playing boules in the square. The kids swim in the river which has an amaziningly fast current the whole time and which adds to the fun. The atmosphere here is very relaxing and peaceful, I would recommend it for getting away from it all! The Owner Gilles and his family work very hard day and night to make sure all their visitors including their many residences have a good time. I dont think they get many English and Gilles enjoys shouting all across the campsite 'Hello Jillian, my Fiance!'! I clearly have an effect on french men, ha! We visited Avignon and as you can see from the pics, it is very theatrical, although the festival time is now, they have many many theatres in the City. We also returned to St Remy to do the Van Gogh walk all of which Ive put on the album, not sure it was a good idea to put all of them on there, 20+! you can decide. Yesterday we went to Aix en Provence which has an old town to it and a Mazarin Quarter which was designed in the 17th Century by Archbishop Mazarin. Again, it is so atmospheric with the narrow streets and when we were there, there was a market, hope you enjoy the photos which typifies this region. Tomorrow we move towards Montpellier hope its just as nice. Best wishes xxx
