Drenthe in the Autum

(Saturday 23 October 2010) by Jill's travels
Hi, arrived in Wezuperbrug in the Drenthe Region of the Netherlands a couple of days ago. We are staying in a campsite called t’Kuierpadtien which is situated along the Oranje kanaal and understand from our Dutch friends, many local families come here over the winter months because it has a Ski Centre on the campsite (must have a practice before we get to Sweden)! I have to say, we were very taken with the Gelderland Region although, the cycle network is just as good here, so we’ve been able to continue to cycle for between 25-40 miles in a day. The whether has been fabulous although, typically autumnal and cold. We cycled through the forest towards Zweeloo today and out of nowhere came half a dozen pony and traps carrying families and couples through the forest, it was so funny. We got to Zweeloo and found a bakery which made coffee, otherwise the place seemed deserted, on a Saturday! We had a very nice café latte (and almond cake on the house)! Cost 6.00 euros with a big scoop of sweet cream. We headed off to Schoonoord again through the forest and came across fields deep in the forest with all different breeds of horses. Tomorrow is Sunday and we intend to chill out all day, how indulgent is that. Best wishes xxx
